School of Human and Social Sciences

About the project

The project was founded in 2000 by Prof. Dr. Maria Anna Kreienbaum at the University of Wuppertal (faculty of educational and social sciences). The project includes seminars, study trips as well as publications and conferences with different focuses.

Since 2014 the project has worked to establish an official partnership between the University of Wuppertal and the University of Zambia to make exchange programs possible for both German and Zambian students. The seminars include topics such as the challenges of everyday life, especially those associated with living and learning in the global south. These seminars allow students of educational science to broaden their horizons and gain insight on the condititions of learning and teaching in Zambia.

There have already been excursions which have provided students with the opportunity to build upon their theoretical knowledge through hands-on experience. The excursion was financed by several organisations.

Furthermore the project catalys for continuiung scientific research on educational topics.

The journey provided a lot of inspiration in this regard - many of the students decided to use their experiences for their thesis and to deepen their knowledge - through further research. Thus, for instance papers on the Zambian educational system, on the chances and challenges of developmental aid, on sports and exercise in Zambia and on dealing with HIV are currently being written. Excerpts taken from these papers will be published in a book along with further articles of Zambian authors. Additional seminars are planned aswell.

Students from the BUW and Zambian Universities discussed questions about development cooperation, teacher training in both countries as well as questions about creativity.
